Zac Goldsmith, MP for Richmond Park and North Kingston, chaired an event hosted by the Sustainable Soils Alliance in Parliament. The event – entitled The Defra 25 Year Environment Plan and Soils: Grounds for Optimism or Barren Landscape? – focused on whether the Government’s new 25 Year Environmental Plan can realistically achieve the objective of sustainably-managed soils by the year 2030.
The Sustainable Soils Alliance was founded as Soils in Crisis by Treework Environmental Practice and Treework Seminars in 2016 with support from Yeo Valley Farms and the Woodland Trust. The event touched on various topics, including education, innovation and tools, pollution, future planning and the economics of change.
In Zac’s speech, he pledged to continue to fight for stronger environmental regulations and reaffirmed his support for the work of Environment Secretary Michael Gove, whom Zac described as “a champion” for the environment.
